Creating a Server "How-To" 10/02/09 14:49 From reading the forums and listening to feedback, it seems that some people don’t know how to create a server.
So, to help you out and make sure that there are always a few servers running we wrote a handy guide.

 Lobby Screen
The first thing you’ll need to do after logging in is to go to the Multiplayer screen which looks like the picture above.
You’ll notice that we’ve put a big red box around the ‘Create’ tab to help you find it. Click that tab.
Now you’ll see the server creation screen.
During the beta anyone can create a server, after release though this will probably be limited to premium accounts.
The options you have here are pretty straightforward but we’ll go through them anyway:

Creation Screen
- Server Name – Pick a cool name for your server.
- Server Password – you can protect your server with a password, anyone who wants to connect will need to know the password first so make sure you let your friends know what the correct password is if you use one.
- Passwords are optional and if you want to have a full game we recommend that you leave it open.
- Territory – you can select from US or European hosts.Obviously you should pick the one that’s closest to you and your friends for better performance.
- Player limit – move the slide to change the maximum number of players. You can have any number between 1 (not very much fun) and 20 (if you like a really busy game). The default is 10 and we recommend this for most of our maps. Note that this number is for the whole match and not per team so 10 people is a 5v5 match.
- Spectator limit – If you want people to be able to watch your mad skills in action then you can allow spectators. By default this is set to zero but you can allow as many as 8 if you like.
- Spectators don’t get to fight and they don’t show up as characters in game but they can watch the carnage from either a fixed camera or a follow mode.
Once you’ve picked the settings you want hit the ‘Create’ button in the bottom right corner and you’ll go to the lobby for your new server.
As soon as you hit ‘Create’ your server will appear in the list on the multiplayer screen with the options you chose.
Now other people can connect to your server too.
The lobby screen looks like this.
Room Screen

As you can see you have a whole lot more options here and, as the person who created the server you can change all of them.
Probably the most important is the game mode; you can switch between Team Deathmatch or Reinforcement modes. This choice will also show up in the multiplayer list with your server details.
You can choose the map you’ll be fighting over too.
Remember that you can change it by vote during a game as well.
You have four options at present – Alleys, Greenwich Village, Rooftop and Pier. Pick your favourite.
The other options depend on your chosen game mode.
For Team Deathmatch you can choose the Match Time which is the length of the match in minutes, the Points Limit which is the number of kills a team needs to win and the Respawn Time which is the length of time in seconds between respawn waves.
The winning team in this mode is the one that either reaches the point limit first or that has the most points when the round ends so if you want a very long match you’ll need to increase both the points limit and the match time.
For Reinforcement you can choose the number of rounds your match will last and the length of time in minutes that each round will take.
You can have matches of up to 30 rounds (which will be a very long game) and round times of up to 10 minutes.
Remember that a round ends when all the players on one side are dead so you’ll not usually take the full amount of time each round.
Finally you can select whether you want friendly fire to be on or off in both game modes by checking or unchecking the Friendly Fire box.
If there’s an ‘x’ in the box then friendly fire is on, no ‘x’ means no friendly fire.
Although this is now your server and you have control over all the options, you’ll need to take into account the wishes of everyone else in your game too.
There’s no point choosing options that no-one else but you wants to play.
Hopefully this guide has been helpful and we’ll see a lot more servers to choose from! | |

"A.V.A Online servers go live on 14th october lol sorry to say but it will run this game into the ground with its exceptional graphics and alot of server activity, you guys gonna take a big hit."
Uh.... No. A.V.A. isn't THAT great. Gameplay isn't real good. Yes, I've played Alliance of Valiant Arms. A.V.A. does have good graphics, but so does Parabellum. Only problem with any free game is that their gameplay isn't exceptional, so they will never compete with commercial games like COD4 and Modern Warfare 2. |
